Thank you so much for all of your prayers and support for Spencer and the rest of us during this adventure! We serve a mighty God and he is in control! Hopefully, we can use this to keep everyone informed of what is going on.

Due to the high traffic on the site, emails may have difficulty getting through but please keep trying. You are helping to give us the strength we need to get through this.

March 19 - 9:00 pm

As this day comes to a close, we just praise God for his grace and glory! We got to see the joy back in Spencer's life as we prayed specifically for that last night. He spent the afternoon doing things he enjoys, watching sports on TV, talking to a friend on the phone, walking in the hall, finally beating mom and dad at Monopoly ad eating pizza (3 slices). I probably had as much fun watching Spence as he was talking about all of what was going on with his friend both here and in Maryville as he did. We know and understand that the journey is just beginning but we are going up the mountain rather than down the hill. Cathy and I cannot express our gratitude enough to all of those of you who are praying for our family and providing other support. As for Chayse, we hear he is standing strong in his faith for the healing of his little brother and after visiting with him tonight I can tell he is doing well. Continue to pray for him as he is a vital part of our family. Spencer will start a chemo treatment at 5:00 am in the morning. We continue to pray for the leukemia to be highly responsive to the treatments, minimal side effects to the chemo, and infections or complications.

While reading my Bible today these were two of the scriptures that really ministered to me.

2 Timothy 2:5, "And if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules."

Timothy 2:12, If we endure, We shall also reign with Him."

Have a wonderful evening and a blessed week.

March 19 - 1:30 pm

Spencer's leukemia doctor was in late this morning and gas extremely happy with the response to the chemo, actually his comment was that he was surprised. Cathy had prayed last night that the doctors would be astounded and God answered that prayer. We are having a wonderful time with our son. Smiles and giggles have been pretty common this morning and early afternoon. He likes his doctors and nurses that are working with him. It was very uplifting to Spencer, Cathy and me when we were able to watch the WOLC services this morning, especially hearing the church pray for us. Pastor Brian was absolutely right when he he asked, "Has everybody heard about Spencer Barr? He was diagnosed with a healing this past week!" Thanks to all of our WOLC family. It is amazing the different "families" that are touching our lives and praying for us. Spencer took to me in NCAA Baseball winning 11-2, Tulane over Texas before we have settled in to watch a bit of basketball this afternoon. Also on the plan for today, a walk down the hall, which will be a first. In addition, we are all excited that we are ordering pizza from Dominos tonight. Spencer said we better order some more root beer because we are going to have a party! We know this is the only the beginning, but it looks as if we are in the lead!

March 19 - 7:00 am

The report could not be any better! The cells are responding very favorably to the chemo. This is just the start of the miracle so we have to be diligent in our prayers. Just as warriors, have to prepare for the battle, so must we. Again, we asking for specific prayer for Spencer at 5:00 pm this afternoon as he begin his next treatment.

March 19 - 6:00 am

Another peaceful night of sleep for Spencer. During the night, when asked how he was doing, Spencer said, "I'm good." We take a break from the treatments until 5:00 pm today and have nothing planned except to watch the WOLC services online. While preparing to go to bed at the Grizzly Center just after midnight, I turned on the TV the priest was talking about hope. "Hope is a good thing when you have it in your heart". Blind hope is almost like not having hope at all. Another thing he said, that we all know is true, "It doesn't matter how bad you are getting beat, you never, ever quit!" It is amazing how God prepares us to handle situations. I thought all these years that we have been going to Bearcat sporting events that, we were just going for the enjoyment and the fun. Now, I have a different perspective. We went to so God would show us, specifically Spencer, how to handle situations and giving him a mental picture to go back to. We received a picture via email last night when the boys and others we were traveling with were at the top of the Arch during the first National Championship trip to Alabama. Being only 5 years old, Spencer was the brave one that day. The other thing that Cathy and I talked was his ability to remember that trip. He talked about it during our trip to Florence this past December. One last thing, on KSFH, the song that was playing on as I sat down to type this was "Miracle" by John David Webster. Wow, what a powerful song!! Went to his web site and he will be in concert in Trenton at NCMC on April 7. Just received Spencer's first blood report since going on chemo. We will report those results later on after we have reviewed  them. Have to go to read the good report!
