Another good report Prayers
are being answered and we see it. Spencer is just finishing up the last drug
in the protocol and no ill effects and has gone to sleep. Earlier today, I
had to go over to the Grizzly House and do a couple loads of laundry.
Spencer had Cathy call me to find out when his dad was coming back. At about
6:00, I made my way back to the hospital to find Spencer eating one of his
favorites, chips and salsa and drinking root beer. To top off his supper, he
finished off a couple of fruit roll-ups. He had been watching basketball all
afternoon and said he was getting bored and asked if we could play UNO (we
might have to change the name of this game Bearcat fans). Although Cathy won
the first two hands, Spencer won in the end, with dad coming in a distant
last. At the change of the nursing shift, unknown to us, Spencer's favorite
nurse, Henry came on. We're not so sure that their aren't a pair of wings
attached to Henry. He talks to Spencer and puts him at ease and lets him
make some decisions. We received a very powerful document that came
from our dear friends Tim and Lisa Neher tomorrow. I started reading it over
at the Grizzly House and had to stop because of the surge of the Holy Spirit
that came into the room. We will be reading it here in Spencer's room later
tonight.
March 18 - 2:00 pm
Sorry that we haven't updated
sooner but the Internet has been down since mid-morning. It is a bit
frustrating but maybe I need to learn a bit of patience. Spencer went down
and had a routine chest x-ray that looked clear to the untrained eye. After
getting back to the room, Spencer slept and got ready for the next treatment
while Cathy and I went and had blood pulled. It will be determined which of
us will be a better genetic match if a bone marrow transplant is required at
a later date. Chayse will also be checked as he is the best potential
candidate to be the donor. Over the next 4 hours Spencer will receive his
third treatment, the second drug in his protocol immediately followed by the
third drug in the protocol. The third drug will take two hours to
administer. Tomorrow afternoon, we will start the cycle over again. Right
now as the chemo treatment starts, Spencer in eating Chex Mix, drinking root
beer and watching basketball. The only side effect he has had to the
treatments is that is he is sleepy and that's not a bad thing. He thinks the
nurses bug him a little too often but overall he has a great attitude. Since
everybody was wearing green yesterday for St. Patrick's Day, we told them
they looked good ande tried to recruit a few Bearcat and Hound fans.
March 18 - 7:30 am
We have had a pretty good night. Most importantly, Spencer slept very
well and the swelling in the tonsils has gone down. The nurse said he went
from sawing logs to sanding them. In addition, he is not saying anything
about back pain when he gets up to use the restroom. He continues to sleep
this morning and just wants the nurses to quit bugging him so he can sleep.
We are going for a chest x-ray to make sure his his chest is clear. We have
completed chemo treatment #2 at 7:00 am. As for Cathy and me, we got a
little sleep last night and that is a good thing. Not only was I able to
sleep, it was a peaceful sleep. Laid my head on the pillow and woke up five
hours later. Your support and offers to help are truly overwhelming to us.
There is no way that we can say thank you enough but we know that God will
bless you. Also we received an email from Grandma and Grandpa claiming to be
the referees. They have thrown the devil
out of the game, off the field and out of the stadium. We are able to listen
95.9 The Fish out of Los Angeles online. As I wrap up this update, the song
God is Control is playing. Indeed we know, God is in control!
