Finally!! Of course the computer would deal me fits now that
Rod is not here to help me! Oh surprise! I have remained diligent and kept
on trying over and over until finally Front Page opened and got to the right
page! I guess I learned something here tonight! If at first you don't
succeed, try, try again! And that's the winning attitude we need for this
game we're in. Rod made it to the airport just fine but his flight was
delayed over an hour because the airline was waiting for spring breakers to
arrive from San Juan. If he had arrived just 5 minutes earlier he would have
taken a bump and received a free airline ticket. Oh well, maybe next time.
Spencer and I are doing very well tonight. The size of his tongue has gone
down considerably and he got his appetite back. He ate french fries, Tex-mex
trail mix, cookies and milk, and toast. Now let's pray it comes out solid!
That's been the worse part today. He is still trying to figure out why the
nurse gave him a laxative last night. I have to agree with him on that one.
Hard to figure out but still we trust them to do the right thing. Rod and I
visited with Amanda, the 16 year old girl we met the first night here, and
she said to tell Spencer to always do what the nurses and doctors tell you
no matter what. Good advice! Believe me, Spencer doesn't even argue mouth
care time anymore! Well, it's late and Spencer is already asleep. We plan on
watching WOLC via the webcast tomorrow morning. It is so nice watching our
church family online as it brings a little piece of home into this hospital
room. I want to also thank all of you who are emailing words of
encouragement and praying for us. I felt such peace and strength even when
Rod was leaving us. I know it was very difficult for him to leave, but he is
needed at home for Chayse as well as his job. Spencer and I look forward
with great anticipation both Rod and Chayse coming at the end of the week!
We love and miss Chayse so much! So when you see him, give him a hug from
his mom, okay? Thank you all so much! The Barr family appreciates your
prayers and love you've shown to us! Good night and God Bless!
March 25 - 12:15 pm
After being serenaded by Spencer on his new
harmonica (Thanks Amy!), Cathy and I went for a quick lunch in the
cafeteria. Spencer is watching the D2 Basketball National Championship Game
and resting. We have had a great morning and plan on having a better
afternoon prior to my departure!
March 25 - 10:20 am
Spencer has found a new toy! He is trying to
find out which is stronger, the suction device or Spencer. We are seeing
some smiles so we know he is feeling better! Spencer received some platelets
earlier this morning and is now receiving some blood due to his low
hemoglobin count.
Every valley shall be filled in, every
mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, and the
rough ways smooth. Luke 3:5.
March 25 - 9:30 am
Spencer is doing a little better at this time. I
attribute it to the fact that his mommy is here. His tongue seems to be
going down some. He is able to "drink" water and Gatorade through a syringe
and even had a little apple sauce through a syringe. Spencer was the one
that thought of eating the applesauce through the syringe.
March 25 - 7:00 am
Pretty tough night for Spencer but he is resting
well right now. The temperature is still there but it is much lower than
what it was last night. He experienced a bit of nausea and diarrhea
throughout the night due to the mucositus. These are common side effects of
the chemo. We continue to believe that they will be minimal. For the first
time, Cathy went and spent the night in the Grizzly House. It was good for
her to get out of the hospital room for a bit. As for me, I will be leaving
for the airport between 4:00 and 5:00 this afternoon.
